Welcome to Pearls of Wisdom - my opportunity to share ideas with you and to update you on any new exciting information that comes my way. Often I will suggest a remedy. By all means try the remedy but if there is no improvement then it’s time for a conversation with me.
"P.J followed me and gave me homeopathic treatment for 2 years. When I first came to consult I was depressed, vulnerable, I suffered from IBS, chronic sinusitis and insomnia. P.J addressed all aspects of my physical and mental state. I was impressed by her sharp insight and her personal and loving approach to my problems. Where I am most grateful is to do with my mental balance…I think the real miracle of this treatment is that it helped me revive my deepest soul." D.D
Acute versus Chronic
Homeopaths often refer to ‘acute’ and ‘chronic’ conditions. Allow me to explain the difference.
An acute illness comes on quickly and will generally go away sooner or later. For example coughs, colds, food poisoning, ear infections, sore throats, bruising etc.
Longer term illness’ more complex cases with deeper issues are referred to as Chronic. Examples include depression, panic attacks, menstrual complaints, insomnia, skin conditions, stubborn chest infections etc.
It’s possible to self prescribe for acutes however anything that doesn’t go away quickly and you’ve struggled with for months or years I suggest you seek homeopathic advice.
Seasonal Information
It’s that glorious time of year again when the bugs come out to play. Colds, coughs, flu, yes, we do everything to duck and dive out of the way of them bugs.
First thing to consider: Strengthen your immune system because a weakened immune system leaves you susceptible to virtually every kind of illness.
S.A.D - Seasonal Attention Deficit Disorder
For various reasons the long winter days can leave one feeling quite low. If it’s the sunshine you are missing then why not try the remedy SOL and bring some sunshine back into your life.
Hangovers and Over indulgence
NUX VOM is the number one remedy for hangovers and over indulgence. Take one dose before you go out and then one dose when you get home before you go to bed. Please remember to increase your intake of water during this party season to limit dehydration and headaches! At least 2 litres per day should do it and definitely a big glass before you go to bed!
Hay fever
If you suffer from hay fever now is the time to treat it. Treat with homeopathy during the winter months and watch your symptoms reduce over the years during peak hay fever season.
School Tears
In the New Year there is often a new nursery or reception in take. As much as this is an exciting time it can also be very scary for children. Two remedies to consider are PULSATILLA and IGNATIA. These remedies cover the clinging and tearfulness also the feelings of grief and abandonment experienced by little ones.
Food for Thought: Did you know that having a runny nose is another way of crying? Yep, sometimes that’s the only way an individual can express and release their sadness and inner anxieties. All those runny noses at nursery, I wonder, colds or tears..?

- Increase your intake of immune system busting foods, fresh fruit and vegetables plus nuts, seeds, grains and other foods that are high in fibre. Limit processed foods, sugar and animal products.
- Get enough sleep.
- Supplement your diet with a good tonic. I highly recommend FLORIDIX Liquid Iron. Iron is essential for a healthy immune system and energy production.
- Stay Happy and stress free to keep the immune system ‘on the up’.
- I also take regular de-stressing hot baths with 5 drops of Lavender essential oil.
- Keep yourself fit with regular exercise, even if it’s only a 30 minute brisk walk twice a week.
- First signs of a cold try the homeopathic remedy ACONITE.

ARNICA: The number one remedy for injury, bruises, shock, muscle ache, sprains and strains, exhaustion to name just a few!
De-stress Bach Flower Essence – ‘Rescue Remedy’
Australian Bush Flower Essence - ‘Emergency Essence’
NB: Remember the above are general remedy suggestions. This is homeopathy so ultimately it’s about choosing a remedy that is most similar to your symptoms. For example COFFEA for insomnia due to a busy mind but ARNICA for insomnia due to exhaustion. It’s worth investing in a simple homeopathic book to help you decipher which remedy is most suitable. They are readily available in general book shops.
That’s it for now, see you next month. Be healthy. Pearl
